Fall 2014 trend guide

Feliz primer día de otoño! Para dar inicio a la nueva temporada les traigo la primera guía de tendencias. Cada temporada tratare de traer las tendencias favoritas de la semana de la moda para ustedes en una guía fácil de seguir. En primer lugar, veremos cómo los diseñadores mostraron las tendencias en la pasarela.

Happy first day of Fall! To kick off the new season I have the first Trend Guide. Every season I´ll break down the favorites trends from fashion week and bring them to you in an easy to follow guide. First, how the designers showed the trends on the runway.

Todos sabemos que esl otoño es para usar animal print! Diseñadores como Badgley Mischka y Nicole Miller han adoptado plenamente esta tendencia, me apego a elementos basicos como el leopardo, pero quiero experimentar nuevas e innovadoras impresiones como pavo real. Yo siempre añado a mis outfits una bufanda de leopardo,  pero este año tambien quiero algo mas como estampados de serpiente.

We all know Fall is for animal prints! Designers such as Badgley Mischka and Nicole Miller have fully embraced this trend, sticking to staples like leopard, while also experimenting with new and innovative prints like peacock. I always add some flare to my outfits with a leopard print scarf, but this year I want to buy some snake prints too...

En esta temporada la piel no se limita a negro, grises y blanco. Se trata de color y patrones en negrilla. El año pasado consegui en el closet de mi abuela una bufanda de piel, y WOW! Con grandes opciones de imitación disponibles, se puede jugar con esta tendencia sin quebrar el presupuesto. Trata usar capas con un chaleco sobre un suéter negro. O llevar un abrigo de leopardo para la temporada navideña.

This season fur isn’t limited to black, grays and white. It was all about bold color and patterns. Last year I got from my grandmas closet a fur scarf, OMG! With great faux options available, you can play around with this trend without breaking the bank. Try layering a fun vest over a black sweater. Or bring a leopard print coat into your closet for the holiday season.

De acuerdo con las tendencias de pasarela de este año, las prendas de algodon son un elimento básico obvia para otoño y están aquí para quedarse. Si te gusta el otoño con colores neutrales, como los grises, cafes, o marrones, o desea añadir un poco más de color a su guardarropa en el otoño, estás de suerte porque vienen en todos los colores que hay. El sueter tejido o de algodon sobre un par de jeans ajustados o un cardigan abierto. De cualquier manera, con esta tendencia nada puede ir mal!

According to this year’s runway trends, knits are an obvious fall staple and are here to stay. Whether you’re into fall neutrals, like grays, tans, or browns, or like to add a little more color to your wardrobe in the fall, you are in luck because knits really do come in every color there is. Throw on a comfy pullover knit over a pair of skinny jeans or switch it up by going bare legs and an open cardigan. Either way, you really can’t go wrong!

Desde el año pasado el cuero es una tendencia importante en general en esta temporada. Pero si tuviera que elegir una sola pieza, seria una falda de cuero. No sólo es la falda de cuero perfecta en el otoño, sino una gran pieza de transición que podras usar en los meses más fríos del invierno. Combínala con medias y zapatos negros o botines para la temporada navideña!

Since last year leather is a major trend in general this season. But if you had to pick one piece, make it a leather skirt. Not only is the leather skirt perfect in fall, but its a great transitional piece that will carry you into the colder winter months. Pair it with tights and black pumps or booties for holiday season!

Suéteres nórdicos me hacen recordar los frios inviernos canadienses al lado el fuego. Esta temporada los diseñadores han aprovechado estampados nórdicos. Sin embargo, ¿qué mejor manera de usar la tendencia de suéteres nórdicos básicos con un toque nórdico "chic." Este otoño, no te limites a los suéteres nórdicos. Más bien puedes aplicar estampados nórdicos en corinto, naranja y bronce y en los pantalones, faldas e incluso vestidos!

Nordic sweaters are bound to make me reminiscent about the holidays and warm canadien winters by the fire. Designers have capitalized on nordic prints. However, what better way to show off the trend then by turning basic nordic sweaters into nordic “chic.” This fall, don’t limit yourself to nordic sweaters. Rather, branch out and apply nordic prints in burgundy, orange, and tan to pants, skirts and even dresses!

No sólo son los botines una gran tendencia esta temporada (ver aqui), sino también lo son las botas a la rodilla. Son para looks más dramáticos y se puede usar con tacón y flats. Proyecta glamour con jeans ajustados y un sombrero grande.

Not only are booties a huge trend this season (read it here), but so are over-the-knee boots. It’s a more dramatic look and can be worn in both a heel and flat version. Project glamour by pairing them with tight jeans and an oversize hat.

No hay nada mejor que la sensación de suavidad de terciopelo. Los diseñadores han hecho de todo con esta tela de lujo, vestidos de terciopelo, camisas e incluso abrigos de invierno en sus colecciones. Es un gran material para llevar a una fiesta y sentirse sexy y a la vez festivo. Usa un vestido de cóctel de terciopelo elegante con un par de pumps, o puedes invertir en un abrigo de otoño con acentos de terciopelo.

There’s nothing better than the smooth feeling of velvet. Designers have gone all out with the luxe fabric bringing velvet dresses, shirts and even winter coats into their collections. It’s a great material to wear to a holiday party to make you feel both sexy and festive. Wear a sleek velvet cocktail dress with a pair of killer pumps, or invest in a beautiful fall coat with velvet accents.

Los cuello de tortuga fueron una gran tendencia el año pasado. Y ahora están literalmente enormes. Cuanto más grande mejor. Viste acogedora con un suéter y combinalo con jeans ajustados o una parte inferior más ajustada para equilibrar la mirada.

Turtlenecks were a huge trend last year. And now they’re literally huge. When it comes to turtlenecks this season, the bigger the better. Cozy up in a statement sweater and pair it with skinny jeans or a more fitted bottom to balance out the look.

Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Guatemala's launch

La semana pasada fue el tan esperado lanzamiento de Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Guatemala, un evento que sin duda alguna marcará un antes y después en la pequeña (por ahora), industria de la moda en Guatemala. Pero antes de la noticia central déjenme que me ponga un poco histórica...

Mercedes Benz inició su relación con la moda en 1996 como patrocinador oficial del Fashion Week en Sidney y Melbourne, Australia, años después en el 2001 en Nueva York y a partir de allí es la plataforma oficial de la semana de la moda en Miami, Berlín, Estambul, Barcelona, México DF. entre otras, y por supuesto ahora en Guatemala... 

Los proximos 26 y 27 de Noviembre de este año se realizara la primera Mercedes Bens Fashion Week en el país en la cual se presentaran  colecciones ready to wear, alta costura y accesorios de diseñadores como: HernanDubois, Juan Carlos Quintana, Guillermo Jop, Mauricio Samayoa, Eduardo Figueroa y Thelma Espina. Se llevara a cabo en Paseo Cayala, y cuenta con el apoyo de Revista Hola Guatemala.

Last week was Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Guatemala´s launch, an event which will set a before and after in the small (by now) fashion industry in Guatemala. But before tell you more about this, let me explain a little history...

Mercedes Benz began his relationship with fashion in 1996 as the official sponsor of Fashion Week in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, after that in 2001 did it again in New York and from that moment it’s the official platform of the fashion week in Miami, Berlin, Istanbul, Barcelona, ​​Mexico City, and others and of course now in Guatemala... 

Next November 26 and 27 we´ll have the first Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in the country, in which we’ll see collections ready to wear, haute couture and accessories will be presented for designers as HernanDubois, Juan Carlos Quintana, Guillermo Jop, Mauricio Samayoa, Eduardo Figueroa, Thelma Espina. It will be at Paseo Cayalá and it´s sponsored by Hola Magazine.

3 pieces for fall

Hay tres cosas que creo que toda chica debe invertir en su closet para su otoño/invierno

1. Un par de botines al tobillo en color solido

2. Una buena bolsa

3. Un buen blazer o abrigo

1. El invierno pasado empece a usar estas botas al tobillo, déjenme decir que estoy muy feliz de que la tendencia se mantenga ya que son muy cómodos y se ven bien con todo, pantalones, vestidos, faldas, todo. Si los tienes en color solido son mucho mas fácil de combinar. 

2. Una buena bolsa, en otoño siempre tengo mas cosas en mi bolsa, ya que no sabes si vas a necesitar una bufanda o un gorro si cambia el clima, así que invertir en una buena bolsa no es algo ilógico. Generalmente no uso tantos clutchs en esta época, sino bolsas mas grandes. 

3. Un buen blazer o abrigo. Soy un poco fan del gris en otoño. Y verán que escogí un blazer con un corte A porque es muy femenino. Pero, tambien los abrigos anchos y destructurados son una tendencia muy fuerte que no hay que dejar pasar este otoño/invierno.

There are 3 things I think every girl should invest in for their fall/winter wardrobe

1. A solid pair of ankle boots

2. A good bag

3. A killer blazer or coat

1. Last winter I started wearing ankle boots, let me say I am very happy this trend will continue ´cause these booties are very comfortable and look good with everything, pants, dresses, skirts, everything. If you buy ones pick solid colors ´cause are much easier to combine. 

2. A good bag in autumn, I always have more things in my bag in this season, you don´t know if you're going to need a scarf or a hat if the weather changes, so invest in a good bag isn´t crazy. I generally don´t wear many clutchs at this time of the year, I wear bigger bags. 

3. A good blazer or coat. I'm a bit fan of gray in autumn. You can see I chose a blazer with an A cut because iti's very feminine. But too unstructured coats is a very strong trend this fall/winter so don´t let it pass.

Long Kimono

Hola a todos! Después de un finde muy largo y haber recargado baterías a mil, hoy hay nuevo post, tadaaaa... y de sus favoritos, un #outfitpost . Hoy les traigo un outfit con tres piezas que en particular marcan una diferencia. 

No recuerdo a qué edad empecé a usar sombreros, incluso llegue a coleccionarlos, me gustaban demasiados, desde muy niña usaba sombreros y ahora que he crecido no es la excepción, sigo comprándolos y usándolos aun cuando en Guatemala no hay una cultura fuerte de los mismos. Este de ala ancha lo adquirí hace dos años y esta es la primera vez que lo llevo con un outfit colorido, ya en anteriores veces me han visto usarlos pero con outfits más sobrios, pero esta vez quería algo nuevo y resulto bien. 

También llevo un kimono, pero no cualquier kimono, este es uno largo, con estampado floral pequeño para balancearlo con mis proporciones. Fue un regalo de mi hermana, ella siempre acierta conmigo...

Otra de las piezas importantes de este outfit es mi collar, pertenece a una de las colecciones de Escarlata, que por cierto este viernes me ha invitado a presenciar su más reciente línea y que me muero por ver. Me gusto combinar este collar con este outfit porque tiene colores primaverales que contrastaban perfecto con mi nuevo kimono. 

Y también introducirles a mi nuevo colaborador fotográfico, Photo & Design, con las fotos de hoy, cuyo trabajo seguirán viendo de vez en cuando por acá... 

Hello everyone! After a long weekend resting I have recharged batteries, and  today I’m bringing you a new post, tada!... one of your favorites an #outfitpost. Today Im sharing with you an outfit with three pieces which makes a difference.

I don´t remember how old I was when I started wearing hats, I start to collecting them, ‘cause I really like hats, wore them since very young and now that I've grown up is not an exception, I keep buying and wearing them even when tough in Guatemala is not a culture to wear them. I bought this hat two years ago and this is the first time I wear it with a colorful combination, on earlier posts you have seen me wearing it but with sober outfits but this time I wanted something new and turned out fine.

I’m also wear a kimono, this one is a long one, with small floral print to balance it with my proportions, a lovely gift from my sister, she always hits!...

Another important piece of this outfit is my necklace, belongs to one of the collections of Escarlata, who invited me this Friday to know their latest line, I'm really dying to see it. I liked to combine this necklace with this outfit ‘cause its spring colors contrast perfect with my new kimono.

Rainy holiday

Hace aproximadamente un mes estaba en este lugar, respirando aire puro mientras dormía al lado de la piscina, entre una ligera pero fresca lluvia... Hoy mientras llego una vez más a este lugar, me pongo a pensar en la tranquilidad profunda que la lluvia me da, puedo llegar al punto de relajación donde casi puedo decir OOOMMM... y no soy fan del yoga pero si de una mente en paz.

La lluvia se quedara con nosotros un poco más así que más vale ver la belleza de su compañía. Este fin de semana es largo para nosotros en Guatemala, celebramos la independencia el día 15, así que hemos tomado un poco de este descanso para salir de la ciudad. Aun con la lluvia como obstáculo para broncearnos es cuestión de ver lo positivo y tal vez no disfrutar tanto del sol pero si del pacifico sonido y aroma de la lluvia... 

Les dejo algunas fotos de la última vez que estuve aquí, la lluvia hace que todo se vea muy verde y algunas flores incluso han brotado ya, hermoso no creen?

About a month ago I was in this place, breathing fresh air while I was sleeping next to the pool, with some fresh showers around... Today while we were on our way once again, I start thinking about the deep peace rain can give me I can get to the relaxation point where I can almost say OM... and I'm not a fan of yoga but I am a fan of a peaceful mind.

The rain will stay with us for a little longer, so you it’s better to see the beauty of it and enjoy. We are having a long weekend in Guatemala, celebrating Independence Day on September 15, so we've taken a little break to get out of our city. Even with the rain as an obstacle to a tan is a matter of seeing the positive, not gonna enjoy the sun but I’ll enjoy the peaceful sound and smell of rain...

Here some photos of the last time I was here, the rain highlights the colours of nature, everything very green and some flowers have even bloomed, its beautiful don´t you think?

Flagship store by Maria´s Bag

Hola amigos, hoy el blog se viste de tonos morados o purpura, con tantísimo gusto hoy les traigo fotos de éxito y un tanto emotivas, y es que no todos los días tenemos la oportunidad de celebrar logros de personas muy queridas que con su trabajo ponen en alto el talento en Guatemala.

Hello my friends, today my blog goes in purple, I´m glad to show you today pictures filled with success and admiration, not every day we have the chance to celebrate the achievements of loved people whose work puts Guatemala´s talent on high.

La primera vez que vi una Maria´s Bag fue en facebook, luego en la prensa y en revistas, siempre tuve admiración por su creadora y me llamaba sumamente la atención el trabajo que estaba haciendo en esta nueva linea de bolsas artesanales. En diciembre Alida nos sorprendió a mi y a otras amigas bloggers en una reunión con una Maria´s Bag para cada una, definitivamente inesperadamente Santa Claus se había adelantado para darme un regalo único en su clase. Desde ese día mi relación con Maria´s Bag y su atenta colaboración con este blog ha sido consistente e incondicional, y por eso y muchas razones mas hoy me siento muy feliz de que oficialmente tenemos una tienda en Guatemala con estos productos hermosos para que estén al alcance de todas y todos.

Maria´s Bag es una linea de bolsas artesanales, hechas en Guatemala de huipiles de cada región, una de las cosas que definen la marca son sus acabados. Cada huipil lleva meses de creación y son elaborados por mujeres guatemaltecas, dándoles así oportunidades de trabajo a un grupo relativamente necesitado. Anteriormente podíamos adquirir estas bolsas en el Estudio Maria´s Bag, pero ahora la tienda es una realidad. 

La nueva tienda se encuentra en Plaza Fontabella, uno de los centros comerciales mas exclusivos de la ciudad. Al evento asistí Sara Galindo (a quien moría de ganas por conocer), así como amigas bloggers nacionales e internacionales. Vean las fotografías abajo, espero en serio disfruten de este evento a través de ellas y no duden en visitar la tienda, yo estoy por ir tambien, para enamorarme mas aun de Maria´s Bag. Cabe mencionar que un porcentaje de todas las ventas de la noche de la noche de apertura fueron donados a Funsepa para mejorar la educación de nuestro país.

The first time I saw a Maria's Bag was on facebook, then in newspapers and magazines, I always had some kind admiration for Alida and I was surprised by the lovely work she was doing in her new line of handmade bags. Last December she surprised me and other fellow bloggers with a Maria's Bag for each of us, definitely unexpectedly, Santa Claus came before time to give me a unique gift in its class. Since that day my relations with Maria's Bag and attentive collaboration with this blog has been consistent and unconditional, and for that and many other reasons today I am very happy to officially have a store in Guatemala with these beautiful products that now are available to everyone. 

Maria's Bag is a line of handmade bags, made from Guatemala´s huipiles of each region, one of the things that define the brand are its finishes. Each huipil takes months to be finished and are made by guatemalan women, giving job opportunities to a group relatively needed. Before we could buy these bags at Maria's Bag Studio, but now he store is a reality. 

The new store is located in Plaza Fontabella, one of the most exclusive shopping malls in the city. The event was attended by Sara Galindo (who I was dying to meet) national and international bloggers as well. Here you can see the event pictures and enjoy them and feel free to visit the shop, I' need to pay a visit too, to fall in love a bit more with Maria's Bag.  And I need to mention that percentage of the sales during that night was donated to Funsepa, foundation that works to improve the education of the childrens in our country.

  

Me disculpo públicamente por no haber asistido el pasado jueves a este evento, pero mi situación de salud no me dejaba ni levantarme de la cama, tal y como les contaba ayer. En segundo lugar, felicitar a Alida, una guatemalteca extraordinaria que con su trabajo da a conocer el talento y gente esforzada en nuestra Guatemala. También quiero agradecer a Lucia Soto, mi fotógrafa designada para esa noche, quien hizo un gran trabajo cubriendo el evento aun cuando yo no estaba allí, ella con suma diligencia desempeño muy bien su trabajo.  

I apologize for not going last Thursday to this event, but my health situation didn't let me get out of bed, as I told you yesterday. Secondly, congratulations to Alida, an extraordinary guatemalan women whose work discloses the talent and hardworking people in our country. I also want to thank Lucia Soto, my designated photographer for that evening, who did a great job covering the event even when I was not there, her diligence allowed to do a great job.
